What it is
Every wave asks for a better decision: where to place towers, when to spend on upgrades instead of expanding, and when to hold a spell rather than cast it. The mechanics stay readable, but the pressure keeps rising.
Campaign stages each introduce a new pressure point and end with a boss that has its own ability to work around. Clear Stage 6 to open Act II and Endless — unlimited waves, doubled enemy health, and boss pairs every tenth wave. Clear all twelve stages to complete the campaign.
Sessions are short by design, but nothing is lost when a run ends: every attempt pays out Crystals toward permanent upgrades.
What's in it
- Twelve stages across two acts with distinct routes, objectives and boss encounters.
- Five towers, each with two specializations that fork its role.
- Three spells — Frost Nova, Meteor Strike, Chain Lightning.
- Ascension — permanent upgrades bought with Crystals earned every run.
- Legendary auras drafted after boss kills for run-defining builds.
- Endless Mode with global Rankings based on bonus score.
- Daily challenge — a new modifier every midnight, with its own ladder.
- Verified scores — server-side run validation on submission.
Why it exists
Most browser games ask you to accept less: thinner mechanics, weaker art, progress that vanishes when you close the tab. Ashen Bastion was built to test whether a web game could feel complete instead — something you launch in seconds, understand in a minute, and still be improving at weeks later.
That meant meta-progression that survives between sessions, bosses with real abilities rather than bigger health bars, and a place in the Rankings worth defending. It runs on plain HTML5 and Canvas, with accounts and score validation handled server-side.
